17 February 2010 16 h 54 min

3Starsde Moscow Town Hall wants to safeguard all LED screens installed in the city against piracy, according to the AFP.

The authority could require operators to install a system which cuts out a screen at the first sign of interference. Another option would be to demand real-time monitoring of content on display.

“If we don’t have 100%, 200% or rather 300% security guarantees, then we won’t install any more screens” announced Deputy Head of the Committee in charge of advertising at the Town Hall, Alexandre Mentchouk. He also added that there was no intention to take down any of the screens already installed.

This announcement follows an incident of piracy on an LED screen in the Russian capital in January which showed pornographic content for several minutes. The hacker, who boasted in the popular daily newspaper “Tvoï Dien” about the ease with which he was able to gain access, is now being prosecuted.
