Q3 2010 North American Digital Signage Index Shows Moderate Industry Growth
The Platt Retail Institute will release the North American Digital Signage Index for Q3 2010 next week. Some key findings include:
- Industry growth, as measured by the Current DS Index, at 1.86 percent during the second quarter can generally be described as moderate. Over the past four quarters the Current DS Index has been increasing, albeit at a decelerating rate. This is consistent with the slowing pace of the general economy going into to the summer, and we look for very weak results for the third quarter. An improving economy in the fourth quarter and beyond, along with the continuing recovery in advertising spending occurring in 2010, points to a upward industry trend in 2011.
- Overall, reported industry business activity was flat during the second quarter (+0.18 percent), after a 6.65 percent increase in the first quarter. Reported sales revenue has dropped for three straight quarters. The second quarter’s 2.58 percent decrease is the largest recorded since this series began in the third quarter of 2009. The near-term projected revenue growth rate of 9.18 percent is also the lowest recorded.
