Sweden: ICA Uses Facebook Check-in and Digital Signage for Promotions
ICA Vanadis supermarket in Stockholm is currently testing sales campaigns which combine Internet, Facebook, mobile check-in and digital signage.
The principle is simple: customers can reduce the price of a product – selected in advance by the retailer – by checking-in in the store via Facebook’s mobile app during the course of a week.
During this period, the more customers have checked-in in the supermarket, the more the price of the product goes down. On Friday, when the campaign ends, all customers can buy the product at the final reduced price.
A digital screen has also been installed in the store to “activate” the shoppers. It informs customers about the current campaign and shows a short URL and a QR Code which can trigger the check-in. Finally, a dedicated web site has been created so that one can follow the campaign from home.
