hydration, toilets, the backstage of the mythical pole event finally unveiled!

There is one test that candidates and producers of the reality show must prepare for from the start of Koh-Lanta: the mythical pole test.

It’s a tradition for the finalists. These are Lucie, Maxine and Jonathan who stick to it for the 2021 season of Koh-Lanta. Viewers have always wondered how this ordeal was prepared since it is supposed to last several hours.

Many questions have been trotting in the minds of viewers of the Koh-Lanta show for years: how do the candidates go to the bathroom? Can they drink? How are the posts installed? Finally, the program director wanted to answer all these questions.

Long preparation is necessary

In an interview conducted by Ciné Télé Revue, Julien Magne indicated that the pole test was carefully prepared for several days. First of all, you have to choose the place. The latter must not be in the middle of corals and rocks for the safety of the finalists of The Koh-Lanta show.

Likewise, the tide must be taken into consideration. There must be enough water to cushion the fall of the candidates. The distance from the shore is calculated to the nearest centimeter. In addition, the posts hold thanks to a metal cross embedded in the sand and are monitored for several days.

In order not to penalize a candidate, the posts were made by adapting to the sizes of the finalists. In general, women have a slightly smaller post than men for the sake of fairness. It is obvious that a woman who wears a 36 cannot have the same platform as a man who wears a 46 because the test would become simpler. To make the image better, a man is surrounded by two women and vice versa.

Koh-Lanta candidates can drink

This question comes up over and over again: How can the contestants for the reality show get themselves hydrated when they spend several hours in direct sunlight on a pole?

In fact, they can drink whenever they want. They have access to a camel bag on the posts. The Koh-Lanta candidates are also invited to put on a total screen before climbing on the poles to avoid the scorching heat.

Urinate on it

To go to the toilet, no solution was found. Indeed, that would amount to having to bring down the candidate. So the finalists have a choice between holding back and urinating on each other.

Denis Brogniart admitted in 2017 that many finalists chose the second option. Obviously, no one can afford to waste 100,000 euros to urinate. A former candidate, Jérémy Raffin, claimed that he had urinated 3 times during the pole test.
