The 555,555-carat black gemstone called “The Enigma” will be auctioned by Sotheby’s and is believed to have originated thanks to the impact of an asteroid on our planet millions of years ago, according to the RT portal.

These rare black diamonds, also known as carbonados, belong to the hardest type of diamond in existence and are found in alluvial sediments in the Central African Republic and Brazil.

“The Enigma” entered the Guinness Book of Records as the largest cut diamond in the world, which also has 55 facets.
