EMBOL assumes a “Race to Zero” commitment: reaching zero net carbon dioxide emissions

EMBOL has committed to becoming a company free of carbon dioxide emissions within the framework of the Global Race to Zero campaign, promoted in Bolivia by the British Embassy, based on the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26) which was held between October 31 and November 12 in the city of Glasgow, Scotland.

In this sense, EMBOL participated in the “Race to Zero” Fair -organized by the British Embassy in Bolivia, the Autonomous Municipal Government of La Paz (GAMLP) and the Piensa Verde platform- which aims to promote the Race to Zero campaign in the country, for more companies, institutions, cities, regions and investors to join the carbon neutrality goal until the 2040s, to achieve a healthy and resilient environmental recovery that prevents future threats, creates jobs and enables inclusive growth and sustainable.

“As Embol, a few years ago we started on our path to carbon neutrality and now we reaffirm our commitment by joining the challenging goal of Race to Zero. We continuously work to meet our environmental objectives set through our Coca-Cola Foundation in Bolivia; that is why we are very proud to be part of this group of companies and institutions committed to achieving a real change and impact in our communities and our environment ”, stated the national manager of Public Affairs and CSR, Luis Lugones.

The company a few years ago has already started to reduce its net CO2 emissions. Through the GreenCloud platform, it showed that, from 2017 to 2020, it reduced 28.23% of its net emissions. For this, it has carried out measures such as the consumption of photovoltaic energy, thanks to the installation of panels in its Sucre distribution center that generate up to 80% of its energy.

Likewise, within the framework of its commitment to achieve a world without waste, it works to redesign packaging, improve industrial processes and involve the community -especially its value chain- in a Comprehensive Recycling Plan, which today translates into returnable containers, bottles 100% made from recycled resin and more than 1,300 containers installed in more than 50 municipalities of the country so that the consumer can recycle in an efficient and practical way.

In addition, through the Coca-Cola Foundation of Bolivia, it works on projects for the recovery and protection of the country’s water sources; fulfilling the company’s global commitment to return 100% of the water it uses to make its beverages to the planet. A milestone in which Bolivia is an active part through the projects developed in the departments of Santa Cruz and La Paz, in alliance with municipal governments, regional authorities, and non-profit organizations.
