GreenCloud Consultant highlights EMBOL’s work for its reduction of Carbon dioxide emissions

GreenCloud, the consulting firm specialized in the management of greenhouse gas emissions, highlighted Embotelladoras Bolivianas Unidas (EMBOL) for its commitment to the care and protection of the environment in Bolivia, through the significant reduction of its carbon footprint organizational.

GreenCloud, founded 11 years ago, with the mission of accompanying the public and private sectors in the mission of making Costa Rica the first carbon neutral economy in the world, offers technology, science and innovation to address various decarbonization strategies. It currently has a presence in 22 countries, collaborating with public and private organizations.

“At EMBOL, the activities with the greatest impact are concentrated in the production plants, for this reason most of the emission reduction actions have been carried out in operational instances: renovating industrial equipment and opting for technology that offers greater energy efficiency and water. These are improvements that are part of EMBOL’s strategic decisions and therefore, from 2017 to 2020 a reduction of 28.23% of net CO2e emissions has been achieved, maintaining the same levels of production and growth ”, stated the CEO from GreenCloud, Juan De Oliva Maya.

An important action to reduce emissions has been the implementation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant with aerobic technology, which operates in Cochabamba, because unlike other treatment plants that use anaerobic reactors, methane emissions (CH4 ) associated with wastewater treatment drops to almost zero when aerobic technology is used.

Another of the measures carried out by EMBOL is the consumption of photovoltaic energy, thanks to the installation of panels in its Sucre distribution center that generate up to 80% of its energy. This initiative aims to be replicated in other distribution centers in the country, to achieve a Carbon Neutral operation in order to reach zero emissions; a commitment that EMBOL assumed within the framework of the Global Race to Zero campaign, promoted in Bolivia by the British Embassy, based on the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26).

“What EMBOL has decreased in production plants in terms of carbon footprint in three years of operations has been equivalent to gradually withdrawing 3402 gasoline vehicles from the streets of Bolivian territory. In 2020 alone, what EMBOL has avoided in CO2e emissions through its recycling programs has been equivalent to 13.47% of the total net emissions of the operation for this entire period. Regarding electrical energy consumption, the efficiency observed from 2017 to 2020 has been equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 3,065 homes in Bolivia ”, added the GreenCloud executive.

Complementary to all these internal efforts, EMBOL also contributes to the preservation of extensive forest reserve areas, with which it achieves water and carbon neutrality. This action is carried out by contributing to the protection of water sources and conserving forest areas that demonstrate high CO2 absorption capacities. Another important aspect to highlight about EMBOL’s environmental commitment is that every day the use of recycled packaging as raw material increases, which translates into a significant reduction in CO2e emissions.

“The sustainability strategy that EMBOL is implementing is a clear example that decarbonization and the circular economy are possible when there is commitment and willingness to mark the steps that make a difference,” concluded the executive.
